Frequently Asked Questions

Why did Solstice start designing and building fly rods?

The motivation behind designing and building Solstice fly rods stemmed from the desire to fill a gap in the market for durable, soulful, cork bending actions for sight fishing applications. All inspired by the flats of Cape Cod and beyond.

Where are Solstice rods made?

All Solstice fly rods are crafted in the USA, with the entire manufacturing process taking place domestically:

  • Blanks: Hand rolled by a small business owner in the USA.
  • Hardware/Components: Machined in New England.
  • Building: Completed on Cape Cod.

Solstice proudly stands as the original Cape Cod fly rod company, ensuring every rod is crafted to meet the highest standards of quality.

Why choose fiberglass/slower action fly rods?

Fiberglass and slower action fly rods offer a unique fishing experience that enhances the intimacy of the sport all while offering benefits that might surprise you. Fiberglass can provide;

  • Natural Casting Teacher: Fiberglass teaches you how to use the rod as a tool by teaching you to slow your casting stroke and tune into your line control when fly casting.
  • Softer Presentation: Fiberglass rods excel in providing a softer, particularly beneficial when sight fishing on the flats.
  • Enhanced Sensitivity: There's increased sensitivity on fiberglass rods, allowing anglers to feel the subtle strikes of fish when they inhale the fly.
  • Durability: Fiberglass rods are more durable and less brittle compared to other materials, ensuring longevity even in rugged fishing conditions.
  • Easier Handling: Anglers can easily grab the leader to land a fish quickly when wading the flats alone.
  • Added Enjoyment: Fishing with a fiberglass rod adds an element of challenge and enjoyment to the experience, emphasizing the art of fly casting and the intimacy of the interactions of nature.

What species can you catch with Solstice fly rods?

Solstice fly rods have been tested and proven effective for targeting a wide range of species in diverse fishing environments worldwide. From chasing striped bass, red fish, bonefish and permit on the flats to pursuing trout in the Alps and Rockies, Solstice fly rods go beyond the flats of Cape Cod.
