Cape Cod Fly Fishing Guide & Report May 9th - 15th:

Welcome to Solstice Fly Fishing Cape Cod Fly Fishing Guide and report. The water temperature measured today in Cape Cod Bay is about 51 degrees and increasing with warmer temps around to stay. The water is still very cold so if you are out on the water make sure you are dressed appropriatel, and wearing a PFD/life vest. It may seem overkill, but it’s certainly not. On all of our fly fishing guided trips we have our clients use the around the waist “pull to inflate” life jackets.

There are quite a good number of fish around Cape Cod now. It seems that everyday there are more and more fish. An observation seen on our guided fly fishing trips is that there is mostly large fish. We have not found the typical smaller schoolie Striped Bass around. Hopefully this is not an indication of what the future of fishery will look like. Anyways, the fishing is getting to be good and will be in full swing in just a few weeks.

The sand eels seem to be in smaller schools and have increased since last week. This is a good indication of what type of fly you want to use. Our Saltwater flies will have a new wave of stock coming in soon, so stay posted. The fish are quite spooky on the flats for the early season which is something to be mindful of. Set your rod up with long leaders that will keep the fly away from your fly line.

As for fly rods we have some great options for flats fishing or general striped bass fishing on Cape Cod or anywhere else. The Solstice Mid-Flat fly rod will provide be a great all around fly rod for Cape Cod. If you are looking for a super fun glass fly rod for striped bass of all size check out Solstice Salt Glass fly rod.  Here’s an awesome video of our long time client James having a blast on the Salt Glass fly rod with a great early season striped bass on Cape Cod.

Get in contact with us if you have any questions or want to book a Fly Fishing Guide for Brewster Flats or any water on Cape Cod. We look forward to seeing you on the water!
