Cape Cod Fly Fishing Guide & Report May 15th - 22nd:

Welcome to Solstice Fly Fishing’s weekly fishing guide and report. The weather has been just perfect. The winds were light and variable over the last week with some exceptions. These conditions allowed us to hook up with some seriously large fish. Looking forward, we have bright sunny skies in the forecast with some heavier winds. This is a great time to work on your tight fly casting loop in the wind. The Cape Cod Bay Water temperature today is 53.1 degrees. As we said earlier, once things hit 50 degrees, we will see an increase in Striped Bass around Cape Cod.

The fishing has been off the charts good for this early in May. This seems to be on the early side of seeing such big fish around on the Cape. During our trips we have been able to fool big fish and small fish on a variation of fly patterns that we tie. Crab flies, small to medium sand eel flies and some bigger mackerel patterns have been successful.

A few nights this week our guides were able to take advantage of the cinder worm hatch on some of the salt ponds. These are amazing experiences that can be fun or frustrating. The Striped Bass get keyed in on these worms and it’s just by chance they pick your fly, but if they do, it’s a blast!

All in all, get out there and fish. You will find the fish and if you need help call Solstice Fly Fishing for a guided fly fishing trip to get you going. We offer fly fishing lessons to hone your skills as well as trips if you’re looking to try your hand at some fish on the flats or anywhere around Cape Cod.
