Happy 4th of July!! Welcome to Solstice’s Cape Cod Fishing report for the week of July 3rd to July 10th. The water temperature of Cape Cod Bay is 68. 7 degrees which is only .03 degrees away from the historical record for this date. The weather has been quite warm, humid, and borderline unpredictable. The rain and thunderstorms have been great for the ground water on the Cape which was very low at this time last year. It seems after the 4th the winds will calm and hopefully the skies will open for some quality sun.
The cape has its normal chaos during this time of year and it’s important to remember that everyone is out to have fun and be safe. Whether you are on a boat or fishing from the shore its important to respect people’s space and be contentiou of your impact on wildlife and those around you.
The fishing report has been great despite the lack of small fish. At Solstice we have heard the words “personal best” more than ever. This is great that there are so many large fish around and we have been seeing that on our trips. There have been multiple shots at some amazing creatures over the last few weeks. Bluefish have been caught on the southside, oceanside, and around Provincetown so if you’re out don’t forget you wire leader.
As the water continues to warm very quickly, we will see the fishing start to turn towards the “August blues” where there are not many fish around because they are looking for cooler water. There has been a huge increase in the numbers of baitfish around. There are loads of sand eels, mackerel, and crabs around. For a pro tip don’t always strip your fly fast. Sometimes an easy pick up is what these fish want. Get out there and fish. You will find the fish and if you need help call Solstice Fly Fishing for a guided fly fishing trip to get you going. We offer fly fishing lessons to hone your skills as well as trips if you’re looking to try your hand at sight fishing on the flats or anywhere around Cape Cod.
If you are looking for any gear please reach out as our rod orders are starting to max out. There are only a few more spots for rod builds for the year of 2023. Please reach out if you need rod blanks or any insight on any type of gear. We are happy to help you.
Happy 4th! Be safe and be kind!
